Being low on vitamin B12 or iron particularly ferritin can interfere with the formation of hair cells and, therefore, hair growth, says Philip Kingsley, a.k.a. “the hair doctor,” who founded the Philip Kingsley Trichological Clinic in Manhattan. He suggests eating a “healthy hair” diet of protein at both breakfast and lunch since hair is made of protein and taking a multi vitamin daily. Kingsley also says scientific research has shown that flaky and itchy scalps trigger more hair to fall. To keep your scalp in top shape and help prevent thinning, try using a tonic, such as his leave-in Flaky/Itching Scalp Tonic
