Approximately 70% of people who have dementia are diagnosed with Alzheimers disease, which basically deals with a degeneration of healthy brain cells, with steadily declining memory and other mental faculties.

This does appear to increase with age.

As well, dementia includes other disorders such as Parkinsons disease, vascular dementia, etc.B vitamins have long been know for assisting in the normal functioning of the nervous system and for their ability to keep an amino acid called “homocysteine” at a balanced and healthy level.  This balance acts in the same way as conditions like high cholesterol or high blood sugars for diabetics.  High homocysteine levels have the potential to affect brain shrinkage, therefore increasing the risk of Alzheimers.  B vitamins can be found in food sources such as liver, brewers yeast and whole grains.
