Let’s Go For Whey Over Milk, Not So Fast!

A lot of guys want to know what to take – milk or whey and they are really confused as to which is going to benefit them the best. Here’s the thing, while you may be inclined to think that milk is best because that is what we had since we were kids, whey protein is great for body building on a daily basis.

One perspective on this debate is to take time into context, specifically the time it takes the body to get milk protein into the blood stream. Compared with whey protein, milk takes significantly longer time to get sucked into circulation and by the time it has reached the muscles, whey protein would have been already absorbed into muscle cells. This is due to the presence of casein in milk. Half an hour is what whey protein takes to reach the muscles, which means that whey is better for quick muscle nourishment.

Now the next question is whether to go for whey concentrate or whey isolate. All the same, both provide whey proteins that metabolize fast. However, the difference is that the former has a lower concentration of proteins and a relatively higher concentration of fat. Isolate is devoid of all fat and is packed with proteins meaning that it releases a huge amount of protein into the blood stream every time. In layman’s language, isolate is better but hold on, isolates cost a lot more than your average concentrates and finding them in the market is not easy. Guess most of us will just have to stick to concentrates.

Getting back to the discussion, is milk better or is whey better? To answer this question let us take a look at where whey comes from. Unknown to many, whey is actually made from milk as it undergoes a change into cheese. What is left over in the process is whey. This just implies that the debate is a futile one and that both whey and milk are great in their own right. The only consideration to keep in mind is to ingest whey any time of the day except before hitting the sack unless you do not mind waking up with a starving stomach.

Many a milk lovers are quick to point out that whey is not a stable source of diet as it lacks carbohydrates and fats. Truth is that it is not meant to be a stable diet, it is supposed to provide supplementation to the natural protein intake. Thus, as long as one does not take whey above prescribed amounts everything is alright.

Hence, the next time someone asks which one is better, milk or whey, revel in the fact that you know better than to question superiority. Let them in on the secret and spare them the trial and errors of going through milk and whey.
